Focus Watch Design

Case Study

Overview

A conceptual smart watch designed to help users improve concentration through biometric sensors while maintaining an elegant and comfortable design. The project involved modeling the watch in Blender, designing its functional dual-dial interface, and integrating focus detection technology using HRV and EDA sensors.

Process Breakdown

The watch was modeled in Blender, divided into four main components:
Top: Sapphire crystal for scratch-resistance and durability.
Bottom: Metal casing to provide structure and a premium look.
Side: A crown used to set time and focus modes.
Strap: Vegan leather or suede, depending on user preference.

Watch Face & Sensor Features

The design features a dual-dial layout:
Main Dial: Displays current time.
Sub-Dial: Allows users to set and monitor focus time.
Bottom Sensor: Detects focus levels by combining Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and Electrodermal Activity (EDA), which are widely used in cognitive science for focus detection.

Challenges & Solutions

In the first version, I encountered an issue where the render appeared blurry. After analyzing the problem, I found that the roughness settings of sapphire and metal materials were too high. By adjusting the roughness, I achieved a much clearer and sharper final render.
